What is a Shaggy Rug/ Fluffy Rug/ Shaggy Mat?

A shaggy rug, also called fluffy rug or shaggy mat, is one of the items that can be found in many homes, restaurants or other interior spaces. Shaggy rugs can be of different sized and can be placed on the floor, on surfaces such as tables and posh indoor/ outdoor sitting surfaces, or hang as wall decor.

Where to Use Shaggy Rugs/ Where are shaggy rugs used?

Shaggy rugs can improve the atmosphere of the environment of the services where they are placed, not to mention they increase the comfort of the floors or sitting surfaces where they are placed.

What do I need to make a shaggy rug?

There are different ways to make a shaggy and they require different things.

• Mat mesh or sack material (watch the video above to see how to make a shaggy Mat with a mat mesh and click on this next link to learn how to make shaggy rug without a matmesh – make shaggy rug with sack-. And this video to make shaggy mat without mat mesh – using only crotchet and yarn. The size of the mat you need will depend on the size of the shaggy mat/ rug you want to make. You can cut the mat mesh into smaller pieces if you need small shaggy rugs or join several pieces of mat mesh to make a big one.

• Yarn/ Thread. This is also called the knitting yarn/ thread or crotchet thread/ yarn: You can use the thick yarn or the thin one to make a shaggy rug. You can buy these yarns from supermarkets or from people who knit sweaters. Ask for knitting yarn or crotchet yarn
• Crotchet: You can use a latch crotchet (it has a small latch/ clip that closes when you pull it out of the mat mesh or sack material). You can also use the normal/ regular crotchet to make your shaggy mat/ rug. • Scissors: You need a pair of scissors, knife or razor blade to cut the yarn into small pieces. You may also need to cut your mat mesh (or sack material if you are using a sack instead of mat mesh to make a shaggy rugs) into the size you want your shaggy mat.

How to make a Shaggy Rug

• Cut your mat mesh or sack material into the size and shape you want your shaggy mat/rug
• Take your marker pen or chalk and draw the pattern you want on your shaggy rug on the mat mesh or sack material.
• Wrap the yarn around your four fingers several times and then cut on both ends. Cut the yarn/ knitting thread near your index finger and again on the other end near your small finger.

• Fold a piece of yarn/ knitting thread into two.
• Insert the crotchet’s hooked end through one of the mat mesh’s hole or your sack material’s hole
• With the crotchet through the mat mesh’s hole, hook the piece of yarn/ knitting thread you had folded into two and then pull the crotchet through another hole (please watch the video above or below to see how to fold the yarn, insert the crotchet and hook the yarn to make shaggy Mat/ rug.
